Good news for drivers and pedestrians, Cassells Street is back open between Chippewa and King West.

City officials say the scaling and removal of rock on the rock face by the First Baptist Church was completed Wednesday afternoon, over 24 hours ahead of schedule.

It was originally expected the work wouldn’t be done until 6pm Thursday.

A large chunk of rock fell onto the sidewalk just over a week and a half ago.

The city brought in a mining engineer to check out the rock face, with it determined that there was loose rock that needed to be dealt with too.
