The Northern Ontario Party officially has a riding association in Nipissing.

The association was formed with the executive elected last night (Monday).

Party Leader Trevor Holliday is the candidate and says their support is growing each day and not just through paid memberships.

“The reply we’re getting from people who tell us they’re voting NOP in the next election, because they’re tired of the same Toronto-based parties making the same decisions that support each other,” he said.

Holliday says northern Ontario needs more attention.

“That’s been my message all along is the jobs, healthcare, transportation, everything is being taken away from the north and nothing is being given in return,” he added.

Richard Laplante is riding association president.

Meantime, Northern Ontario Party members have finished voting on the party’s plaforms and will be releasing them soon.

One highlight is to create a Northern Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry that would be based in the north and operated by northerners, with revenues staying in the region too.
