Tom Hedican named Citizen of the Year

Even though founder Tom Hedican is no longer involved with Coach4Food, his contribution to the success of the annual program has not gone unnoticed.

He’s been named the Kiwanis Citizen of the Year.

Hedican, who will receive his award on May 25th at the Ramada Pinewood Park Resort, says he’s touched.

“This was emotional, I don’t know why, but I guess it’s maybe because Kiwanis is about children and Coach4Food is at almost 1.5-million pounds and it was driven by children,” he says.

Hedican says a lot of people deserve credit.

“When things like this come along, come your way, you share them with a lot of people, I have a great Coach4Food staff and I have to share it with the city, really. The people that donated and the kids, the parents that collected the food, they did all the hard work so I share it with everybody,” he added.

Coach4Food has now gone province-wide with the OHL’s involvement.

The event sees kids on hockey teams collect food for the food bank and the top collecting teams get a practice run by the Battalion coaches.
