Bad news for the snowmobile enthusiasts in North Bay, local trails are still closed due to unfrozen and unsafe ponds, swamps and waterways.

Marketing and Public Relations Director of the North Bay Snowmobile Club Shawn Flindall says it hasn’t been cold enough to freeze these areas and Trout Lake is no longer completely frozen. Flindall says there are some areas within the region that are opened on a limited basis, including Bonfield and Mattawa.

But as far as trails in North Bay are concerned Flindall and the OPP are advising everyone to stay off them.

OPP Constable Brian Bowes says it is still too early in the season to be out on the ice.

He says they consider ice conditions to be “dangerous” at this point.

Officials say they need a solid week of below 20 degrees before they can even start grooming trails.
