DND funding Troy Armoury 22 Wing North Bay$9.2-million has been announced for Department of National Defence upgrades in North Bay.

MP Jay Aspin and Associate Minister of Defence Julian Fantino announced the funding this morning (Monday).

$6.3-million is for extensive interior and exterior renovations to the Troy Armoury, including roof repairs, improved washroom facilities and repairs to emergency lighting systems.

Meantime, $2.9-million is going to 22 Wing North Bay. The funding there is to repair the fire-detection system to the Underground Complex, remove the former fire-suppression system, repair the roof and emergency-lighting system and to replace the heating boiler.

“It is reassuring that our Government is making long-term commitments in military infrastructure in North Bay,” said MP Jay Aspin. “Military operations in North Bay constitute an important part of our regional economy and Canada’s security. We want to ensure our facilities in North Bay are state-of-the-art and we continue to be a critical part of Canada’s military structure for the long run to keep our nation secure. These investments will maintain North Bay’s important position in Canada’s system.”

When it comes to the Underground Complex, Aspin says this could lead to more jobs in the future.

“Investments in infrastructure for our facilities in North Bay help ensure our men and women in uniform, including our Reservists, continue to support operations at home and abroad,” said Minister Fantino. “Our Government is proud of the Canadian Armed Forces and we are committed to make sure they have the facilities they need to train and operate effectively.”
