keatsPolice Chief Paul Cook says the North Bay Police Service will be bringing in a puppy to help officers who may be having trouble with PTSD.

Cook says Post-Traumatic-Stress-Disorder can be a serious issue for officers.

He says “as first responders, especially in the policing profession, they are exposed to things that can be really troubling and things that most people wouldn’t experience. So you want to make sure that when they are exposed to those, there are supports in place.”
Cook says those supports will help them move on and continue with a healthy life.

In a release, police say puppy “Keats,” a 13-week old Eastern European German Shepherd, named in honour of Constable Andrew Keating, North Bay Police Service (1985-2014), is currently in training as a Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) service dog.

Keats is being sponsored by the North Bay Police Association and the North Bay Police Services Board thanks to joint donations and fundraising efforts that are currently underway.
