Mac Bain - council capsule

With Council finally coming to a decision on the Water Meter rates, the issue was discussed this morning on Council Capsule.
Matthew Sookram was joined by Councillor Mac Bain in studio – and Bain says it’s about time council found consensus on the issue.

Council agreed on a 60-fixed-40-variable split cost and the rates will come into effect on September 1st.

Meantime, Council also heard from Filippo Suriano, the owner of “Tiny Italy” last night – and his proposal to build an outdoor patio.

The patio would be on the sidewalk, but a platform would be built around the patio for pedestrian traffic.
Bain was asked this morning if there were any downsides to this idea.

Should permanent residents vote in municipal elections? That was a question facing City Council last night – and Bain says he would not be against this.
He says immigrant Canadians are a part of the community, even if they don’t have their citizenship.
