Employment down in the North Bay area

Stats Canada is reporting employment in the North Bay area was down 12 percent in April, compared to the same month in 2014.

The employment rate was 54.4 per cent last month.

As for unemployment, it was at 7.1 per cent in April.

There’s no comparison as last year the data was below the confidentiality threshold and couldn’t be published.

The figures include the City of North Bay, Callander, East Ferris and Bonfield.

Meantime, unemployment across the Northeast Region was 8.1 percent in April.

That’s up slightly from the 7.8 percent jobless rate recorded in April 2014.
