budget cuts

Council is expected to hold a final vote on the budget on Monday. But Mayor Al McDonald says there’s still a lot to be decided in the process.

It currently stands at 2.21% over last year’s increase.

Vice Chair of Engineering and Public Works Chris Mayne says the last couple of years they have been guilty of optimistic budgeting while suffering a deficit.

Mayne says this year they were told budgeting would be more realistic, but he says he still has concerns.

Chair of Community Services Mark King says he would not support that number. He says they could have achieved a lower increase.

King says the city of Sudbury is a good comparison to North Bay in terms of tax levies.

He says with Sudbury’s zero percent tax increase this year, it puts North Bay at a disadvantage.

Budget Chief Sheldon Forgette says he doesn’t support the way in which Sudbury achieved their zero percent increase.

Council will vote on the budget on Monday.
