Respect is the focus of Community Living North Bay .

It’s asking people to sign the organizations on line petition which focuses on respect for people with intellectual disabilities in schools, workplaces and the entire community.

Spokesperson Chris Thorne says it’s using another r word positively.

“In order to change that negative we’ve tried to make it a positive so everyone in the community can pledge to show respect and that way it not only applies to people with disabilities,” he says.
He says they have several partners in the campaign including 5 high schools.

“They receive a banner and everybody can sign the petition and it gets put up in the school and is up all year round. It’s a reminder for the kids to be respectful,” he says.

Others partners include the Nipissing University Student Union, The EarlyOn Child and Family Centre and Best Buddies at Nipissing and Canadore. For more on the petition check out the Community Living North Bay facebook page.
