Get ready to pay more for a cab ride in North Bay.

The North Bay Police Services Board has approved rate increases.

Deputy Chief Scott Tod says the the so-called drop rate, which is the price as you enter a cab, is going up by 1.9 per cent, based on the Consumer Price Index.

“Current drop rate, right now, is $4.60. It will increase to about $4.70,” he says.

The roll rate, which is what you pay per kilometre, is going up 20 per cent.

“People ask ‘where does the 20 per cent come from?’ Well, that came from the recommendations of one of the people that made presentations to us, that that’s their increase in the minimum wage increase,” Tod says.

The rate increases will take effect within the next 15 days as cabs have their meters adjusted.
