It’s a ‘game-changer’ for film and TV post-production in the north.

Canadore College has opened their new 5,500 sq. ft. post production facility.

Northern Development and Mines Minister Michael Gravelle says this enables film and TV projects to be shot, edited, mixed and finalized in the north.

“This is state of the art, it’s as good as anything you’ll find in Los Angeles or in Toronto, and indeed it is a game-changer.  It now means we can continue to attract film and television making to the north,” he says.

The facility has several parts including a 70,000 Atmos mix stage, 41 speakers, a colour correction room, dialogue replacement and specialized computer and software equipment.

Crews will be able to mix audio, provide closed captioning, perform dailies and more.

Canadore College President George Burton says the equipment has already been put to the test.

“We’ve actually done some post-work already, through a new (Jean Claude) Van Damme film, doing the sound effects for it.  We’ve completed that, it’s back in L.A. getting packaged for distribution,” he says.

The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund, Canadore and FedNor all contributed to the project.
