Close to 400 volunteers will be helping out with the 2018 Ford World Women’s Curling Championship.

The event will be held at Memorial Gardens in March and vice chair of special events for the event Dave Bennett says they have reached their quota of what’s needed.

He says volunteers are involved in helping out in a number of areas.

“Volunteers will be involved with the timing, the scoring, the stats and the transportation.”

Other duties include being involved in the Patch that’s the bar that will be run out of the North Bay Granite Curling Club.

Bennett is pleased with the ticket sales.

He says they’ve sold over a thousand full event passes and are now selling tickets for individual draws.

“Including the Canada games because we wanted to get those out before Christmas. And the other tickets for draws Canada’s not involved in will go on sale in the New Year.”

Bennett says they’ll know their field by the middle of February.

It’s possible that some of the teams will be the same squads that take part in the Olympic competition.

Canada’s representative for the North Bay event will be known on February 4th that’s when the final of the Scotties Tournament of Hearts will be played in Penticton, B.C.

The Rachel Homan team will be going to the Olympics so they won’t be here but Bennett expects the fans will be very supportive of Team Canada whoever it is.
