A call by the Mayor of North Bay and a local business owner to shop local. Mayor Al McDonald says in a recent survey 65 per cent of Canadians are shopping on line and that’s impacting local businesses.

“Over 30,000 of our citizens are going to go on line and not spend their money local. We want to encourage our citizens to support local business people who give back and volunteer in the community.”
Lisa Despres is the owner of Active Running.

She says they have 6 employees and if people didn’t shop local those people wouldn’t have jobs. As well she says there is an advantage to shopping local in term of customer service.

“You come here, you have as personal service, we will get you on the treadmill, we will do a personal fit for you. And that’s something you can’t get on line.”
