The Northeast LHIN has provided almost $540,000 in funding to address mental health and addiction services needs.

The money is earmarked for The Nipissing Mental Health Housing and Support Services, The Community Counselling Centre of Nipissing and The People for Partnership in Mental Health.

Interm CEO of the LHIN is Kate Fyfe.

She says $380,000 is going to provide housing supports for 8 people in need of services at a facility on Lakeshore Drive.

“And really be able to have supports around with them 24-7 so that they can live a really fulfilled life.”

Linda McCarthy has a relative who is one of those people.
She says her relative will now get the help he needs on a regular basis.

“He’s been here a year now remarkable…physically, emotionally, mentally, psychologically it’s quite amazing.”

$90,000 is going to The Community Counselling Centre of Nipissing which will enable it to increase the hours at its walk in clinic.

And $70,000 is going to the People for Partnership in Mental Health so it can hire an additional support worker.
Allan McQuarrie of the Community Counselling Centre of Nipissing says the money will help people stay in the community and keep them out of the hospital where they don’t really belong.
