A science festival is taking place in North Bay next week.

Science North and several community partners have combined forces to put on the event. Some of the activities include outreach programs on science and math at local schools, the availability of the Science North Planetarium, the Science Olympics. a screening of the film Mysteries of the Great Lakes and a science carnival next Saturday.

THE CEO of Science North Guy Labine says they’ve had community outreach to North Bay before but this is an expansion.

“The growth of our summer camps, the installation of a northern nature trading experience and now a science festival is really a great example of how we can coordinate and work with great science partners here in North Bay.”

The local organizations include Nipissing University. First Robotics League and Team 1305, the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.

Sue Buckle is with the conservation authority.

She says the message they want to get across to students is science is everywhere.

“It relates to the water that we drink, the food that we eat, the clothes that we wear, the toothpaste that we brush our teeth with. And we want the kids to understand how important science is to every part of our life.”
