There were a couple of presentations to council this week about the rental housing bylaw and crime, drinking and all the noise in Thibeault Terrace area.

Two residents want changes to the bylaw so landlords would be more accountable to the entire neighborhood.

Colin Thacker says this issue must be dealt with.

“This problem if it’s left to fester and grow and grow each year we’re headed for big time trouble.” And we’ll wish we had addressed it in the first place,” he says.

Karen Mathews says there’s another issue too.

“They’re packing as many students as they can so they’re parking across the entire lawn even in back yards. The houses don’t have enough parking because they were not meant to house 5 or 6 people,” she says.

The two residents say North Bay Police have stepped up enforcement, but something must be done about the situation.

The city won’t comment on the bylaw as its currently before the courts.
