The North Bay Fire Department says don’t leave any cell phone charging cord plugged in when the cord is unattended.

Fire prevention Captain Randy Vezina says they had an incident on Thursday at a Princess St. E. residence in which a cell phone charging cord experienced an electrical failure and started to burn.

He says the cord was plugged into a power bar which was plugged into an electrical outlet but the cord wasn’t plugged into the phone.

It was laying on the hardwood floor.

He says they were contacted when electrical burning was detected.

Vezina says the cause of the incident was an electrical defect and the phones provider a Samsung Galaxy S6 has been contacted.
