Last night, city council adopted the blue box and waste diversion plan.

North Bay City Councillor Mac Bain had a few tips for people on what shouldn’t be in the blue box that you put out in the driveway every couple of weeks.

He says K cups from coffee machines are a no no.

He says they are also not compostable.

As well Bain says don’t put liquor bottles in the blue box because glass costs the city because they have to crush it so it doesn’t go in the landfill.

He says items like cellophane shouldn’t be going either.

Bain says for a complete list go to the city’s web site or check the calendar the city sent you on what’s included and what isn’t.

Meantime, Bain says the province is looking at banning organic items from landfills by 2022.

He says North Bay would be negatively impacted because they would have to set up a green bin program unless the province gave the city an exemption due to North Bay’s population density.
