A North Bay man who helped restrain an aggravated man on board a flight from Jamaica to Toronto this week is being called a hero for helping out.

But, Mike Breadmore says he doesn’t see it that way.

“You’re put in a situation, the adrenaline kicks in and you just do what you have to do, kind of thing,” he says.

Breadmore and his girlfriend were on the flight returning from their vacation.

He says the whole scenario played out for about an hour before he and a few other passengers volunteered to restrain the man.

In fact, Breadmore says they saw the man in the airport before hand and were hoping that he wouldn’t be on their plane.

But, he was and Breadmore says it was clear there was no talking him down.

He says there were plenty of upset passengers in the back section of the plane, including one woman near them.

“He was saying shank her with a pen, so I guess he wanted to stab her with a pen, you know people were uneasy, for sure and I don’t think there was any other option than what we did,” he says.

As for security experience, Breadmore says he doesn’t have any, but playing hockey helped out.

“I’ve played hockey for a long time and I’ve definitely been in a few battles, so I definitely didn’t think twice about it,” he says.

A 33 year old Kingston-area man was arrested when the plane diverted to Orlando.
