The North Bay Battalion have moved back into a playoff position after a 3-2 overtime win in Sudbury Friday night.

The 67’s, Troops and IceDogs all have 46 points with Ottawa listed 7th, North Bay 8th and Niagara 9th in the OHL standings.

Battalion forward Steve Harland scored the overtime winner in Sudbury, his 24th goal of the season.

Daniil Vertiy and Justin Brazeau also scored for North Bay, while goalie Brent Moran made 34 saves in the win.

The Battalion are back in action tonight in Barrie.

The Nipissing Lakers women’s hockey team shutout York 3-0 on home ice Friday night.

It was the Lakers final home game of the regular season.

Nipissing travels to Guelph on Sunday.

Both teams are tied for first in the OUA standings with 51 points, but the Gryphons have a game in hand and play Windsor this afternoon.

 

In the Great North Midget League playoffs, the North Bay Midget AAA Trappers won game one of their semifinal 2-1 over Kapuskasing.

Mathew Hardwick and Ian Denomme scored for North Bay.

Game two goes tonight at 7:30 pm at Memorial Gardens.

 

In the NOJHL, the Powassan Voodoos beat Espanola 6-1 on Friday night.

Gary Mantz had a hat trick with singles from Tyler Rolfe-Gervais, Andy Baker and Parker Bowman.

The Voodoos outshot the Express 66-35.

Both teams play the back end of a home-and-home series tonight in Powassan.

 

In OCAA men’s basketball, the Canadore Panthers won their final game of the regular season 74-67 over Georgian College.

The Panthers are 6th in the standings with a 9-11 record and 18 points.

Loyalist and St Lawrence are two points back and each have two games remaining.
