medical doctorOntario’s Health Ministry is appealing to March Break travellers, to make sure they’re vaccinated against measles and other viruses. It takes about two weeks from the time you get the shot until you reach full immunity. Associate Chief Medical Health Officer, Dr. Robin Williams says if you’re not properly vaccinated, you’re taking an unnecessary risk.  Measles generally starts with a fever and progresses to a red blotchy rash on the face and body.

Most people recover within three weeks, but one-in-four develop serious complications.

According to the latest official numbers, there are 18 confirmed Ontario cases of measles so far this winter — 10 in Toronto, 6 in Niagara Region, and 1 each in York  and Halton Region. A suspected case in Algoma turned out not to be measles.
